Congratulations to Mrs. Geron Wiggins, the 2024–2025 Newberry Middle School Teacher of the Year! (8th Grade ELA Teacher) She serves as the lead sponsor for the PAWsitive Experience, a mentor-mentee program now in its third year at NMS. She is the Director of the ELA Academy After-School Program and serves as the editor of the school newsletter. Her commitment extends beyond the classroom and can frequently be seen supporting students at a wide range of extracurricular events. Mrs. Wiggins is currently working on her G-T endorsement through Converse College. We are proud to honor her outstanding contributions and celebrate her as this year’s Teacher of the Year!

Happy National Nurse Day – May 7th, 2025! We are incredibly thankful for Nurse Werts, our April 2025 Support Staff of the Month, and we deeply appreciate her 20 years of dedicated service to Newberry Middle School. Superhero Day Shoutout! 🦸‍♀️🦸‍♂️ Today, we honor the real heroes at Newberry Middle School — our incredible Food & Nutrition Department! A huge thank you to Rose Ashe, our amazing Cafeteria Manager, Rebecca Elders, our dedicated Assistant Manager, and the entire cafeteria team for their hard work and commitment. Every day, they ensure that our students, faculty, and staff are well-fed nutritious and delicious meals — both at breakfast and lunch. Their dedication behind the scenes helps fuel learning and brightens our school community. Note: NMS Food & Nutrition staff received Bojangles's Cajun Chicken Biscuits this morning compliments of NMS Administration. We are so proud of our NMS Food & Nutrition Staff! In celebration of National Physical Education and Sport Week – May 1–7, 2025, we want to take a moment to recognize and appreciate the incredible dedication and effort of our physical education leaders here at NMS. A heartfelt thank you to Coach Busby, Coach Gunter, Coach Reid, and Coach Skinner, along with all the dedicated Newberry Middle School Physical Education teachers! Newberry Middle School Communication Announcement 🎉 Congratulations to Shiniqua Mays! 🎉 NEW ELA LEAD-Newberry Middle School We are thrilled to announce that Shiniqua Mays has been named the New ELA Lead Teacher for Newberry Middle School for the 2025–2026 school year! With over a decade of experience in education, Shiniqua brings talent, dedication, and a deep passion for student success to this new role. Her excellence in teaching has been widely recognized—she was named Teacher of the Year and District Teacher of the Year in the Lexington 3 School District and was honored as Teacher of the Month at NMS in March 2025. Mrs. Mays is currently pursuing her doctorate degree. Beyond the classroom, Shiniqua plays a vital role in our school community. She is an active member of the NMS Leadership Team and has served as a lead teacher in the 21st Century Thriving Tigers After School Program, supporting student growth beyond the school day. Mrs. Wiggins brings a wealth of experience and leadership to this position. She currently serves as our NMS Lead Teacher, PAWsitive Experience Coordinator, ELA Academy Director, and NMS Newspaper Editor. She has also been recognized as Teacher of the Month multiple times over the past three school years—a testament to her dedication and excellence in education.
